Known as the 'Tartarian Dogwood' a stunning deciduous shrub best known for its winter effect once all its leaves have dropped! although this cornus also has variegated leaves of lime green/ golden yellow and small creamy white flowers in May. But the really stunningly bright, coral red stems are its main attribute giving a cheer to the winter months, planted alongside other yellow, orange or purple stemmed dogwoods and other winter interest plants you can have colour even in the darkest months. Prefers full sun in any soil even waterlogged. For the best stem colours you will need to cut the plant back hard to around 10cm from the ground in March every other year & the new growth will then attain a lovely colour for the next season.
