Drought Tolerant Plants

A range of plants usually native to dry regions of the world such the mediterranean that have evolved to thrive & survive in dry soils with little rainfall. They are also useful to choose for a sunny border in full sun with a free draining soil & work well in some low maintenance planting schemes such as gravel or scree gardens. With climate change & the increasing long hot spells we are now experiencing use of these selected plants will mean that you can still have an attractive garden, whilst using less water & losing less of your plants to the conditions. One thing to note though, this does not mean these type of plants can be planted and then left, they gain their drought tolerance once established so must be kept watered initially until that point!
