Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii'

Known as the 'Red Abyssinian banana' this spectacular plant grows at a huge rate of knots in the warm summer months, forming huge paddle shaped leaves of Burgundy red, flushed green.

Superb in an exotic planting effect or popping up in a mixed border amongst grasses etc.

Must be grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil best in a large container, or a sunken container in the ground to make it easier to lift later. keep in a well sheltered location away from winds which will shred its large leaves . This banana must have winter protection from frost. Water regularly and keep well fed every two weeks for best results.
