Fargesia nitida 'Volcano'

Known as the 'Red Fountain Bamboo' this new hybrid Fargesia variety is a stunning, non-invasive bamboo with delightful red-black canes & dense, lush foliage. A perfect choice for a container or can be planted into the ground without concerns as this is truly one of the clump forming types of bamboo. The Volcano bamboo will create a graceful specimen with upright canes topped with overhanging lush, delicate foliage steadily increasing to around 2m high x 1.5m wide after 5-10 years. It can also be grown as an evergreen screen or hedge if planted closely together, plus it can be pruned to keep it to a required height.

Preferring a moist but well draining soil or compost, in shade to part shade out of cold drying winds, it must not be allowed to dry out, as the leaves will go brown and fall off. Very cold hardy though, considering its oriental appearance, will cope down to -20/25 degrees with no ill effect, but will not tolerate being waterlogged.
