Leycesteria formosa
Known as the 'Himalayan honeysuckle or pheasant berry' a stunning deciduous shrub native to China & tibet, it attracts a wealth of wildlife, and its an extremely handsome shrub with a long season of interest, having shapely leaves & trailing white & claret flowers from mid to late summer, followed by reddish purple berries in the Autumn which attract many species of birds including blackbirds & pheasants. In the winter months its bare arching fresh green stems resemble bamboo & provide a nice backdrop to brighter stemmed cornus etc.
Grow leycesteria in a moist but well drained soil in full sun to partial shade, and it can be pruned back hard to keep to a smaller size if required.
