Musa Basjoo
Known as the 'Hardy Japanese banana' this spectacular plant grows at a huge rate of knots in the warm summer months, forming huge paddle shaped green leaves. Superb in a sub tropical planting, in containers on a patio or popping up in a mixed border amongst perennials & grasses etc.
Must be grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil, best in a large container, or a sunken container in the ground to make it easier to lift later. keep in a well sheltered location away from winds which will shred its large leaves . This banana must have winter protection from frost to keep its trunk, however if cut down to the ground by frost it will normally re-grow from the base often putting up a multitude of new 'Pups!' Water very regularly and keep well fed every 2-3 weeks for best results.
