Persicaria (formerly polygonum)

Persicaria are wide ranging hardy perennials with distinctive arrow shaped leaves, and flowers formed in small long lasting spikes held above the foliage, very attractive to pollinating insects, and last from around midsummer to early Autumn, the foliage often turning vivid colours before dropping. Persicaria grow in full sun to part shade in any reasonable, moist soil. The taller forms associate well with larger border perennials, whilst the low mat forming varieties are ideal at the front of a border, or mixed in amongst ferns etc.
